In August of 2021, the town of Gila Bend, Arizona, was hit by a devastating flood that destroyed 80 homes and damaged dozens more. Leavitt Group’s very own Powers-Leavitt Insurance — based in Buckeye, just 30 miles south — was among one of the first groups to respond.

Every Powers-Leavitt client in Gila Bend was contacted to ensure everyone was safe and rapidly determine the damage’s extent. The agency also helped in other ways. Producer Richard Hopkins serves as the District Governor for District 21-S of Lions Club International and worked with the Gila Bend Lions Club to start a Facebook fundraiser.

In just five days, they raised $26,985. Richard was also able to receive an additional $10,000 via a Lions Club Emergency Disaster Grant. With the help of a local solar power company, the Buckeye Lions Club helped guarantee and fund temporary lodging for as many displaced residents as needed at a local hotel.

Powers-Leavitt Insurance and the Buckeye Lions Club were also able to provide physical aid in the form of three trailers and three SUVs filled with emergency relief supplies for the people of Gila Bend. Said supplies included 5,100 bottles of water, food, baby formula, diapers, cleaning supplies, toys, and much, much more. Later that week, more donations in the form of additional clean-up tools arrived in a U-Haul accompanied by a check for $6,153 from the Mesa Republican Women’s Club.

When all was said and done, within just a couple of weeks, the community of Gila Bend was able to raise $60,000 for aid.

We cannot fully express our deep and sincere gratitude for Richard Hopkins and the rest of the Powers-Leavitt team. We love to hear the good our Leavitt Group members bring about (regardless of when we finally hear of it).
