John Reiners

As an insurance advisor with Leavitt Heartland Insurance Services in Spearfish, South Dakota, I focus on both commercial property/casualty insurance and employee benefits coverage, including self-funded health plans.

Before joining Leavitt Group in January of 2020, I worked in the coaching profession for 25 years. Most recently, as the head football coach from 2012-2020 at Black Hills State University. I was honored as the 2016 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Football Coach of the Year, and served as the RMAC representative for the NCAA DII Coaches Connection Advisory Committee from 2013-2020. Prior to my time at Black Hills State University, I worked at Chadron State College, my alma mater, as the head track and field coach and assistant football coach.

My customer service philosophy mirrors what I learned while recruiting. Relationships must be built on honesty, integrity, and communication. Finding out how to best serve a client or athlete is the best approach rather than looking for ways clients can serve you.

I am active in various civic organizations in the Spearfish community. I serve on the board for both the Spearfish Economic Development Corporation and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Pastoral Advisory Council. I am also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Lions Club.

I grew up on a farm in the small town of Indianola, Nebraska, and have lived in Spearfish since 2009. My wife and I have four children and one grandchild. We enjoy spending time together, attending our kid's various activities, and exploring the beautiful outdoors of the Black Hills.
