As the company has grown and evolved, so has its commitment to protecting employees and managing risk. U.S. Granite's leadership has consistently looked for ways to strengthen safety programs, improve claims management, and build a culture of continuous improvement. By maintaining open communication, seeking guidance when challenges arise, and involving risk and claims professionals early, the company has built a strong foundation that supports both a successful business and the wellbeing of its employees.
That commitment is reflected not only in the company's safety performance, but also in the way it approaches claims management. U.S. Granite has developed a strong partnership with its claims advocates, working collaboratively throughout the claims process and providing the information needed to support employees, advocate for positive outcomes, and help keep claim costs under control. Their proactive approach to injury prevention and claims management has produced exceptional results, including only one minor workers compensation claim and no auto claims during the most recent policy period. These results demonstrate that a strong safety culture and effective claims management can go hand in hand.
As concerns surrounding respirable crystalline silica exposure intensified across the engineered stone industry, U.S. Granite demonstrated the resilience and adaptability embodied by the REACH Award. Rather than continuing business as usual, the company chose to do the hard work required to better protect employee health. U.S. Granite already utilized water-fed cutting and polishing equipment to reduce airborne silica dust and further strengthened its exposure control efforts by updating their respiratory protection program and silica training and learned how to perform air monitoring activities internally to determine employee exposure. To support these efforts, the company hired a dedicated Safety Manager to oversee compliance, training, and ongoing improvement initiatives. U.S. Granite also recognized the long-term health risks associated with artificial stone products and transitioned the majority of its products to a glass. These decisions were not always the easiest or least expensive path forward, but they reflected a genuine commitment to protecting employees and continually finding safer ways to operate.
