About John
Our client satisfaction is the gauge by which we measure success. I’m a detail guy, so I spend extra time educating clients on our services and products, even if it isn’t competitive for us. Our agency provides a wide variety of personal insurance, including identity theft, home, flood, auto, umbrella, jewelry, art collectibles, and sporting equipment, to name a few. We also offer commercial insurance that includes cyber, property, liability losses, workers comp, and business income losses.
I established Godbee Insurance Agency after retiring from engineering in 2003. Insurance is a fascinating field and serving Texans with knowledge and choices of their insurance was something I wanted to do! I have always been a problem solver. My attention to detail has allowed me to share my knowledge as well as comparative information sources. This makes policy selection simpler so our customer’s decision can be based on cost knowledge and level and depth of coverage.
We recently joined Leavitt Group when our agency made the decision to work with them. The partnership has allowed us to keep our local ownership while gaining the support of a strong, national company. It was easy to settle in because the Leavitt philosophy is complementary to our own, and we still operate with the attitude of ownership to maintain growth rates and our previous retention levels.
I grew up in Abilene, Texas and attended Oklahoma University and University of Houston for engineering development. I was later hired by Union Carbide Engineering Products as a field engineer servicing the USA and Canada along with many other global markets. My wife, Debbie, and I moved to the Sugar Land area in 1992, raised our two girls here, and have served as volunteers, coaches, and commissioners for “Sugar Land Girls Softball” and the “Upwards” athletic programs.
Debbie and I both enjoy giving back to the Sugar Land area and community by participating in almost all citizen first-responder programs imaginable. We are Fort Bend County Sheriff Dept. Alumni 2019, Community Emergency Response Team trained and certified by FBESD/FEMA 2019, Sugar Land Citizens Police Academy Alumni 2021, SL Police C.A.S.T recognized, and currently enrolled in Sugar Land Citizens Fire Academy Association training. I am also a trained and authorized severe weather spotter reporting directly to NOAA in Galveston.
I love spending time with our daughters, two grandkids, and three grand-dogs. We like to play sports, barbecue, woodwork, play board and card games, and put together “MacGyver” projects. I also played the acoustic guitar for Sugar Creek Baptist Church for 23 years and that was fun! My favorite restaurant depends on the type of food I’m craving; for fajitas, the Lopez Mexican Restaurant; for steak, Taste of Texas; and for amazing BBQ, The Witt Pit.
