Introducing the Leavitt United REACH Award!

In insurance, we see the ugliest parts of what comes with owning a business and know how difficult it can be to address new exposures. More often than not, our meetings with clients involve difficult conversations about claims that have impacted the business, an employee, a third party, or sometimes all of the above. We see devastating incidents that are life altering for people and we feel the effects and see the impacts they have on everyone involved. With the amount of loss we see, it’s important that we find ways to recharge and focus on the positive. The Leavitt United Risk and Claims Team put together an award to celebrate our clients’ wins and acknowledge their efforts to care for their employees and the people involved with their business.

The Leavitt United REACH Award was created to recognize businesses that REACH to successfully overcome insurance losses and emerging risks through effective risk and claims management, by cultivating a culture and community within their business that helps their employees thrive. The award honors businesses who understand that their actions, their REACH, affects not only their employees, but also their families and friends, companies in their industry sector, and their local community. We believe the choices businesses make can truly make a difference in people’s lives and we work to help them make decisions that will protect their business and their people.

REACH represents the impact a business has on the world. The awards values are represented by each letter in the word REACH and the businesses who can be described by those values are making the world a better place.

Millworks by Design, Inc. Summer 2024 REACH Award Recipient

Millworks by Design, Inc. has been a client of Leavitt United since 2015 and is a boutique trade contractor specializing in architectural millwork and custom finish carpentry for the high-end construction market. Millworks is mainly involved in custom home builds and remodels in the Los Angeles area. When they came to Leavitt, their experience modification was high, peaking in 2017 at 1.75. Our team worked with Millworks to create a plan to reduce their losses, and in turn, reduce their experience modification and the workers compensation premium costs impacted. They created a long-term goal of reaching a 0.75 mod by 2024. To achieve that goal, Millworks changed their culture, incorporated safety as a key value, became more active in the claims process, and continued to reevaluate their efforts annually. Our team forecast their December 2024 ex-mod at around 0.65, their lowest ever, which will be achieved on schedule and even lower than targeted!

We knew Millworks by Design should be the first recipient of our award because their achievement represents exactly what our RAC Team is here to help our clients achieve. Our services are designed to help businesses who want to take an active role in managing their risks and help them make their business a more protected and safer place to work. Millworks has made safety an authentic and integral part of their work culture and they continue to invest in the safety of their team. Their commitment to ensuring their employees and workplace is protected proves that their REACH has a positive impact on their workforce and their extended community.

What sets Millworks apart?

Millworks is extremely involved in the claims process. They ensure care is provided to employees quickly and effectively. Millworks communicates with both their carrier and our claims advocates throughout the life of the claim, from incurral to closure. Millworks provides return to work options that reinforce their safety values by offering online safety trainings as part of their light duty accommodation, including OSHA 10 and 30 trainings. The housekeeping at their jobsites is impeccable; it’s obvious which areas they are working in because it is always so much more organized than other trades on the jobsite. Another example of Millwork’s commitment to safety is all of their table saws have been upgraded to SawStop table saws that have an automatic braking system that stops the blade upon contact with skin or flesh. Millworks also incentivizes the use of cordless power tools by offering to contribute towards their employees’ tool replacement.

I joined Leavitt United Insurance Services as a workers compensation claims assistant in 2021 and currently work in the Elk Grove Office. In 2021, I accomplished quite a bit! I earned my property and casualty insurance license and graduated from Sacramento State University with a degree in public health, focusing on occupational health and safety. I’ve worked as a restaurant manager and a caregiver for the elderly.

I was born and raised in Sacramento. I like watching movies and working on craft projects. I also enjoy camping, hiking, and spending time with my husband and two dogs.

I have been in the workers’ compensation industry for over 35 years, starting my career as a claims examiner in 1984. Since then, I have worked for two carriers, a third-party administrator, and two law offices. This versatile background gives me a well-rounded perspective on the claims administration process.

My strengths lie in reserve forecasting and accuracy, catastrophic loss coordination, detailed reporting, and benefit delivery. I can navigate the California Labor Code and intercede directly with carriers and other claims personnel on the employer’s behalf. I’m experienced in troubleshooting claims and aggressively pursuing optimal outcomes while ensuring the best possible care to the injured worker. I can also serve as a valuable, direct resource to employers, because I’m adept in fraud identification, MPN implementation, initial and subsequent claim reporting, claims reviews, and driving claims to closure.

My husband and I are based in Fresno and are the
proud parents of two grown daughters. I enjoy outdoor activities and volunteering with the SPCA mobile unit.

“Life is about moments. Don't wait for them, create them.”

I started my insurance career in 2008 as a personal insurance department manager, then worked as a business unit account manager. In 2013, I became a senior claims advocate. I joined Leavitt United Insurance Services in 2023, and I have experience managing claims in a wide range of complex policies, including general liability, wrongful death, employment practices liability, auto, and property claims.

It's important for me to be thoughtful and attentive to my clients while educating them on the claims process. Being responsive to individual requests and needs is an essential part of the customer service experience. I am my client’s advocate and I ensure their claims get reported and handled in a timely manner.

Leavitt United Insurance Services has a reputation built on honesty and integrity, and they provide continuing education for growth and advancement opportunities. I don't feel like a number in a cooperate environment, I feel like a valued asset. On day one, I knew I belonged here.

I grew up in Chowchilla, a small agriculture town in the Central Valley. I moved to the greater Sacramento area from Chico in 2014 and really enjoy the food of our local brewery scene, although I like all types of different and unique cuisine. I love living in Sacramento due to its location to the coast as well as Lake Tahoe.

I've been married to my husband since 2002. I have an amazing daughter with five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. One of my favorite hobbies is creating stained glass art pieces. I also enjoy spending quality time with my husband, family and friends, reading, road trips, traveling, and anything that has to do with being outside in nature.
