Build a disaster preparedness kit

Grab a plastic storage bin or duffle bag and getting packing!

Water

The recommendation is a gallon per day per person. It’s good to have a three-day evacuation supply.

Food

Keep enough for a three-day supply. Stock foods that can be stored for a while and are easy to prepare. Some suggestions may be dry cereal, protein or fruit bars, canned fruit, vegetables or meats. Remember to include a can opener.

Other Essentials

  • First aid kit
  • Flashlight and ample supply of batteries
  • A week’s supply of medications
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Cash
  • Multi-purpose tool
  • Cell phone and charger
  • Sleeping bag
  • Matches
  • Important documents
  • Change of clothing and shoes

Maintaining your kit

After assembling your kit store it in a cool dry place. Replace items as they expire. Re-evaluate your kit yearly as your needs dictate.
