Blog How the DMV Pull Notice Program (PNP) Can Strengthen Your Driver Safety Program

The PNP provides real-time notifications of changes to your employees’ driving records—including violations that occur during personal time. While required for DOT-regulated drivers, it’s a proactive tool for any business with employees who drive on company time.

Why It Matters

Leavitt United reviews motor vehicle records (MVRs) annually for policy renewals and new drivers. But if a driver’s license is suspended mid-year and goes unreported, your company could be exposed to serious liability in the event of a crash. The PNP helps close that gap by alerting you immediately when:

  • A conviction or accident is reported
  • A driver fails to appear in court
  • A license is suspended, revoked, or otherwise restricted

How It Supports Safety

Real-time visibility allows you to:

  • Discuss violations with employees
  • Encourage traffic school for minor infractions
  • Reinforce how violations affect their ability to drive for the company
  • Remove driving duties for those who no longer meet MVR standards as soon as possible

What You Need to Know

Before enrolling, employees must sign a consent form—easily added to your fleet safety documentation. Just as important as receiving the alerts is having a plan in place to act on them. Management should promptly assess eligibility and follow fleet safety policy protocols when MVRs change.

Cost Breakdown

  • $5 per employee for initial enrollment (includes MVR)
  • $1 per update (e.g., violations or license actions)

Example: Enrolling five employees costs $25. If two receive citations during the year, the total cost rises to just $27.
